COLLECTIONS

I work in layers.

Painting, imagery, text, resin, found material and physical depth often occupy the same piece.

Building, obscuring and revealing are as important to me as the image itself.

Some work begins with a clear concept. Other work reveals itself through the process of making it.

I leave room for both control and unpredictability and allow the material to influence the outcome.

LAYERED / MIXED MEDIA

LAYERED / MIXED MEDIA

Layering allows different materials, images and ideas to occupy the same space. These works combine paint, resin, text, found imagery and other elements, building depth both physically and visually.

I assemble these parts into a single composition; adding,

obscuring and revealing

until the piece finds its form.

PUBLIC & LARGE SCALE

Working at architectural scale changes the relationship between artwork and audience. These projects move beyond the object itself, becoming part of a room, building or public environment.

Cartier’s large-scale work has included murals, commissioned installations and collaborative community projects throughout New England.

ABSTRACTION

Abstraction changed my relationship with control. What began as an uncomfortable departure from representational work became an important part of how I create—allowing material, movement and chance to participate in the outcome rather than determining every detail in advance.

DRAGONFISH

Dragonfish began as studies of koi and betta fish before gradually evolving into an imagined species of their own. Removed from direct reference, their exaggerated fins, movement and individual personalities became a recurring visual language within my work.
